Artists’ exhibitions, projects, awards and
events De La Warr Pavilion presents a major exhibition of Richard Grayson’s work from the last five years. The Golden Space City of God, 2009 and Messiah, 2004, both originally commissioned by Matt's Gallery, are two of the works included in this exhibition, which brings together examples of Grayson's films, drawings, photographs and prints for the first time. The Magpie Index a single screen video installation newly commissioned by Locus+ and the De La Warr Pavilion will also be shown. The exhibition continues until 14 March 2010. Richard Grayson will also be showing work as part of Film & Video curated by Phillida Cheetham at The Russian Club Gallery from 4 February–6 March 2010.
Barrabackslarrabang by Imogen Stidworthy was commissioned for the exhibition XXX Get Off at Edge Hill, at Metal, Edge Hill Station, Liverpool in 2009. The work is showing at Galerie Akinci, Amsterdam from 15 January–13 February 2010. A major solo exhibition of Imogen Stidworthy’s work will be shown at Arnolfini, Bristol from 27 February until 25 April 2010. The Provincial Forge a project by David Osbaldeston and Joe Devlin, will present Europas the second instalment of a three cycle programme of exhibitions which physically re-work and re-present artists publications from around the world. The Provincial Forge can be found inside the John Rylands Library, Manchester in the Cloister Gallery display cases, and are available for viewing during opening times from 10 February–7 April 2010.
The QUAD Gallery, Derby will be presenting a major exhibition of Ian Breakwell’s work. Ian Breakwell showed The Waiting Room at Matt's Gallery in 1985. The exhibition entitled The Elusive State of Happiness at The Quad Gallery will run from 13 February to 18 April 2010.
Ian Breakwell is also showing alongside Amikan Toren amongst others in Face History at Anthony Reynolds Gallery until 6 February 2010. Paul Carter’s solo show Architectural Intervention will be the first show at LoBe's new space in Berlin. An expansive installation that disrupts the architecture the exhibition runs from 20—27 February 2010. |
Artists'
exhibitions and events continued Jordan Baseman will also be showing work commissioned by The Wellcome Trust at Dundee Science Centre on 23 February 2010. The screening is the first of a tour to several venues across the UK as part of the Wellcome Collection’s Identity Project. The Gstaad Film Festival–4th International Festival of Artists' Film, Switzerland on 12–13 March will also be screening Nasty Piece of Stuff by Jordan Baseman. A solo exhibition of Mike Nelson’s work at 303 Gallery, New York will run from 27 February–10 April 2010. Mike Nelson will also show work in Crash at Gagosian Gallery, London, a major group exhibition opening on 11 February 2010, which takes its title from the famous novel by JG Ballard. The exhibition continues until 1 April 2010.
Mike Nelson’s work will also be shown at 179 Zabludowicz Collection in an exhibition entitled The Library of Babel / In and Out of Place from 25 February–9 May 2010. Continuing Exhibitions Fiona Crisp’s exhibition of large-scale photographic work entitled Subterrania will end its tour at Newlyn Art Gallery, Cornwall from 13 February–17 April 2010. Newlyn Art Gallery initiated the tour which recently visited BALTIC Centre of Contemporary Art, Gateshead and Impressions Gallery, Bradford. The exhibition takes images from four series produced over the last six years. A publication and limited edition print have been produced to accompany the exhibition. An exhibition of Jimmie Durham’s work entitled Obsidiana will be showing at Kurimanzutto, Mexico City from 11 November 2009 until 6 February 2010.
From February to April 2010 Jimmie Durham will undertake a three-month Production Residency at Glasgow Sculpture Studios to create new work for Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art. Willie Doherty’s exhibition Buried, shown at The Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh earlier this year, tours to Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea from 19 December 2009—14 February 2010.
Nathaniel Mellors will be showing his installation The Time Surgeon, 2007 at De Hallen Haarlem, The Netherlands. The exhibition, entitled Recente Aanwinsten will run from 12 December to 7 March 2010.
