Portfolio Information
E3 4RR is the first ever print portfolio produced by Matt’s Gallery. In a limited edition of 25, it brings together fifteen internationally acclaimed contemporary artists. It is presented in an A3 black buckram covered box with typography designed by Phil Baines. Each work is printed using archival ink and paper and interleaved in archival tissue. There are 17 proof copies for the artists, Matt’s Gallery, London and Wimbledon College of Art.

E3 4RR has been put together by Robin Klassnik and employs the same philosophy as the gallery’s exhibition programme. The development of the portfolio has been an organic process with an emphasis on the dialogue between Klassnik and each of the artists when developing and selecting the work. This process has been essential in bringing together a body of work from fifteen very different artists.

All prints have been specifically produced for E3 4RR and generously donated by the artists towards Matt’s Gallery's ongoing fundraising initiative. The sale of the portfolio will help the gallery to continue to provide a platform for emerging and established artists to make innovative, challenging and ambitious works; commission new publications and publish a 30 year Matt’s Gallery book; develop an extensive archive and enhance its role in education; and provide bursaries for internships enabling an active participation in nurturing the next generation of cultural leaders.

Matt’s Gallery is a not for profit organisation and operates in the heart of the East End of London. It represents and exhibits some of the UK’s most exciting and inventive artists such as Turner prize nominees Willie Doherty and Mike Nelson, who are included in E3 4RR. Willie Doherty has worked with Matt’s Gallery for seventeen years and is representing Northern Ireland at this years 52nd Venice Biennale; Mike Nelson has worked with Matt’s Gallery for thirteen years and has received his second nomination for the Turner Prize in 2007 for AMNESIAC SHRINE or Double coop displacement 2006, at Matt’s Gallery and for Mirror Infill 2006, commissioned by Frieze Projects as part of Frieze Art Fair. Melanie Jackson recently won the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2007, which Alison Turnbull and Suzanne Treister were also shortlisted for, and Nathaniel Mellors is currently showing his newly commissioned film The Time Surgeon at the Biennale d’Art Contemporain de Lyon 2007. Please see E3 4RR biographies for more information on each of the participating artists, and images of their prints, by clicking on the artist links above.

The gallery continues to support its artists’ creative and professional development, and our critically acclaimed exhibition programme organised by the Director, Robin Klassnik, through awards from charitable trusts and foundations and the support of the Arts Council England as a revenue client.

E3 4RR, is produced in association with BA Fine Art Print & Digital Media, Wimbledon College of Art, with paper sponsored by John Purcell Paper and framing by ARQADIA, A Larson-Juhl company.
