Hiding Places

14 September 2021

MattFlix presents Kathryn Attrill’s Hiding Places (2021), the first instalment of Not long but very good.

Not long but very good is a programme of four short artist films. The artists participating are all 2021 graduates from London art schools. Attrill graduated with an MA in Contemporary Art Practice at the Royal College of Art.

Hiding Places emerges from an intergenerational collaboration between artist and grandfather as a sensory investigation into handling loss through encounters with found objects. Filmed on the Isle of Wight using Super 8 and 35mm, the work speaks to the catharsis that can be found in unearthing, collecting and assembling broken objects and images.

Collisions and conflicts of affective matter and film fragments recall contamination and disappearance; diminishing species, vanishing habitats, lost labours.
