Stanley Picker Traineeship
Fixed-term position (5 months, April – September 2023)
2 consecutive days per week (to be agreed, Tuesday - Friday)
Bursary of £4,015.20 (equivalent to London Living Wage)

The Stanley Picker Traineeship, now in its 14th year, is a unique opportunity for a recent graduate or postgraduate to gain valuable professional development experience, working as part of a gallery team. The traineeship is offered on a part-time basis two days per week over 5 months.
The new Stanley Picker Trainee will support us on delivering an open ended, vibrant and responsive programme of exhibitions and projects with artists including Nicola Bealing, Mike Nelson, Jennet Thomas, Carolyn Thompson and Michelle Williams Gamaker.
Matt’s Gallery will prioritise applications from candidates from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse backgrounds, currently underrepresented in the Arts sector. Applicants should have an interest in our work, a strong desire to learn and develop within a professional gallery environment and will be required to demonstrate knowledge of the visual arts, an aptitude for research, as well as strong administrative, communication and organisational skills. Matt’s Gallery is seeking new members for its Board of Trustees to support the continuation and development of its work in its new home in Nine Elms.
We are looking for proactive new members with an interest in contemporary art to join our board. We are especially interested in candidates based or active in the Wandsworth and Nine Elms areas, and particularly welcome applicants from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse backgrounds who are currently underrepresented in our organisation.
We are currently looking for individuals with knowledge or professional expertise in the following areas:
- Accountancy and Finance
- Audience Development
- Environmental sustainability
Trustees bring their expertise and professional experience to support Matt’s Gallery in achieving its aims and objectives. They provide leadership, advice and guidance to the staff and organisation.
Trustees serve for a 3-year term and attend approximately 4 meetings throughout the year in addition to an Annual General Meeting. They sometimes participate in and contribute to small working groups and subcommittees.
Candidates should be able to commit their time and enthusiasm and be an ambassador for the gallery.
In accordance with charities law, this is an unpaid position.
