Phil Coy, Stereo Pair
Sold out
Assembeled between 2022 and 2026 by Phil Coy, this book is a photo-essay and usuer-manual, documenting the production of the permanent site-responsive sound installation Stereo Pair (2001), which is situated in the Brutalist campus and gardens of Brunel University, London.
Fabricated from six modular pre-cast concrete arcs that create left and right channels, the installation functions as an experimental form of acoustic architecture, which invites users to sit or lie inside and experience a deep form of listening.
By collating and organising research material including working drawings, maquettes, archive images, photographs, film stills and installation shots, the publication makes visible the hidden narratives that ran alongside the work's production between 2019 and 2021.
With contextual essay’s by Jennifer Lucy Allen, Lee Mackinnon and Will Self, the book delves into the broader geographical and cultural context that informed the work Stereo Pair, and the rich history of the site.
First edition of 100 signed and numbered copies.
